Base wallet guide

How do you use a Base wallet without confusing it with Ethereum?

Treat Base as a separate Ethereum Layer 2 network. NordBalticum keeps Base visible as the active chain, uses ETH for its network fees and lets you review the asset, destination and transaction before approving it from your self-custody wallet.

  • Ethereum Layer 2
  • ETH pays Base fees
  • Separate balances and history
01

Same address, different network

An EVM address can work across chains while the funds remain on the network where they were sent.

02

ETH is the fee asset

Base transactions normally require ETH held on Base, not an Ethereum mainnet balance elsewhere.

03

Bridging is not automatic

Moving value between Ethereum and Base uses a bridge or supported transfer route with separate risks.

Base is connected to Ethereum, not identical to it

Base is an Ethereum Layer 2, but it has its own transaction history, execution environment and network selection. An asset shown on Ethereum mainnet is not automatically available on Base.

Before receiving from an exchange, confirm that the service offers Base as the withdrawal network. Before sending, confirm that the destination accepts the asset on Base.

Keep fee liquidity on the right chain

Base uses ETH for gas. The ETH needed for a Base transaction must be available on Base, even if the same wallet address also has ETH on Ethereum mainnet.

Network fees, bridge availability and confirmation timing can change. Review the exact route and do not infer support from the address format alone.

Practical flow

What to do next

  1. 1

    Open Base

Select Base before choosing the asset or copying a receive address.

  2. 2

    Confirm route support

Verify that the sender or recipient explicitly supports Base.

  3. 3

    Review ETH gas

Keep enough ETH on Base and authorize only after checking the final summary.

Security, in plain English

Controls with defined responsibilities

Network-specific context

Balances and actions remain attached to Base rather than a generic EVM view.

Protected authorization

Wallet confirmation and optional MFA can gate sensitive actions.

Explorer-verifiable result

The network transaction reference provides independent confirmation after broadcast.

Clear answers

Frequently asked

What pays transaction fees on Base?

Base transactions normally use ETH held on the Base network for gas.

Can I send Ethereum mainnet assets directly to Base?

Only through a route that explicitly supports Base, such as a compatible withdrawal or bridge. Do not rely on the matching address format alone.

Is NordBalticum operated by Base?

No. NordBalticum is independent self-custody wallet software that supports Base among enabled networks.
